After the arrival of Ben Fogle and James Cracknell’s boat on Tuesday, things got even better when we won the prestigious Row Hard event at City Hall a few days later.
Dan and Will recruited Steve O’Connor (our rowing coach) and Tim Grant (trainer, nutritionist and life coach!) into their 4 man team. The aim of the game was to row 2000m, on ergo machines, as quickly as possible with each member rowing 500m.
We got off to the worst possible start when we didn’t hear the start gun as the Coldstream Guards (8ft monsters on the machine next to us) got a 5 stroke lead on us. Luckily Tim, aka the Engine Room, fired us back on to level terms and got us in to a good lead. The rest of the race went as smoothly as a babies bottom as we extended our lead on the field to cross the finish line in a time of 5min 40 seconds. The Coldstream Guards finished a full 18 seconds behind us in 2nd place! Amazing result…
We then did a short speech on our plans to row the Atlantic to the assembled crowd which went down well. A cracking day which couldn’t have gone much better. A huge thank you for Stanford Resourcing for hosting the event and allowing us to say a few words. Over £30,000 was raised for Royal Hospital of Neuro Disability. Amazing.
