The Role

Jellyfish is looking for a DevOps Engineer to work in our Reston, VA office.  The candidate will be positioned within the rapidly growing systems engineering and operations team to work on maintaining and scaling our web application servers and the services they run. The role involves managing various types of Linux containers, virtual machines and bare metal servers predominantly housing LAMP/LEMP stack setups that host a wide range of web base technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Managing large high traffic websites for our clients across multiple data centers globally
  • Maintain end-to-end security ensuring best practices are always implemented
  • Provision and maintain all servers using configuration management tools
  • Monitor all aspects of Jellyfish's infrastructure to stay one step ahead
  • Architect and implement challenging web based production ready solutions.
  • Work closely with the in-house web developers to help share knowledge and improve quality of practices
  • Taking ownerships of projects gaining a personal satisfaction in achieving high uptime environments
  • Working in a DevOps capacity with a desire to automate everything
  • Aiding the Service Desk team with tickets and providing additional technical support
  • Perform effectively to tight deadlines, work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment trying to always achieve new goals
  • Communicate technical concepts to non-technical staff and the business
  • Implement new technologies to make sure Jellyfish are always evolving to reach new highs

Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Expert understanding and effective application of Linux command-line.
  • Excellent knowledge of LAMP and LEMP environments.
  • Ability to scope and estimate technical builds.
  • Effectively conduct architectural reviews.
  • Exposure to configuration management systems such as Puppet/Chef.
  • Exposure to Continuous Development Tools such as Jenkins
  • Experience of using version control:
  • Github
  • Subversion
  • Robust knowledge and understanding of Databases (MySql/ MariaDB)
  • An understanding of Virtualization Software (VMWare , OpenVZ, KVM, Docker )
  • An understanding of public cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Knowledge of monitoring systems (Nagios, Cacti, ELK)
  • Strong verbal and communication skills.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Self-motivated with a sense of ownership.
  • Flexible, versatile and copes well under pressure.
