The Role

The Associate SEO Director plays an instrumental role in contributing to the continued growth of the agency’s SEO offering. As a lead member of staff, they will contribute heavily to the development of the department’s specialists and provide valuable support to account management teams, business development initiatives and heads of departments. They will also act as a day-to-day contact for chosen senior level clients who require the highest level of attention, knowledge and expertise.

 

The role is strategic, technical, creative and managerial, crucial in demonstrating impeccable standards within the team and inspiring colleagues via thought-leadership. The Associate SEO Director will use their experience and proven track record to lead SEO strategy, execution and measurement within complex and often integrated accounts. They will be committed to building upon the agency’s existing capabilities in a results focused manner.

Responsibilities

Departmental Responsibilities

 

  • Support agency vision and act as a Jellyfish brand ambassador
  • Function as an agency champion and expert across SEO subject matter, with vast experience in strategy, planning and execution
  • Work alongside the Head of Earned Media to sculpt the team, its processes and quality of output
  • Collaborate with agency leads in identifying & capitalizing on commercial opportunities
  • Engage with software partners/providers to ensure effective working relationships and access to insights/betas where possible
  • Monitoring project budgets to ensure that the correct level of time and resource is being contributed to campaigns
  • Oversee accurate resource planning, scheduling and time tracking for your respective team alongside project managers
  • Line management of select department staff
  • Interrogating and challenging the strategies, tactics and ideas of the department’s SEO practitioners in a professional and respectful manner to aide their development
  • Contributing significantly to new business opportunities and working with the Head of Earned Media and Business Development teams to produce Schedules of Work and project budgets
  • Acting as an escalation point during client or internal disputes and doing your best in assisting in the resolution of challenging situations
  • Proactively assessing practices and methodology within the SEO department and playing a hands-on role in delivering improvements where required
  • Coordinating regular department team meetings
  • Staying abreast of industry trends and all applicable technologies, including developments in SEO, Social media, PPC, Display, Analytics, Online Marketing, E-Commerce and online consumer behaviour
  • Providing SEO training to internal teams and clients when required
  • Contributing to press, marketing and thought-leadership activity
  • Interviewing job applicants


Campaign-level Duties

 

    • A lead expert on key Jellyfish accounts that require the highest level of experience, knowledge and innovation
    • Guide teams in understanding and interrogating client briefs successfully to result in quality output that meets goals & KPIs
    • Utilise landscape insights to craft data-driven SEO strategies and to produce actionable outputs, recommendations and roadmaps
    • Collaboration with Social and Content team members to contribute to the ideation of content marketing ideas that are supported by sophisticated amplification strategies
    • Working closely with internal SEO Managers, Social Media Managers, Content Managers, Account Managers and Project Managers to assist in the smooth implementation of client work
    • Articulate strategies to clients in a professional, clear, easy-to-understand manner
    • Lead not only in the development of sophisticated organic strategies but also in the integration into wider cross-channel projects involving Social, Video, PPC and Display Advertising

 

  • Establish and maintain measurement frameworks that allow for clear visibility into strategy, performance and ROI

 

  • Ensure that campaigns are meeting budgets and deadlines
  • Quality assurance of campaigns
  • Attending key campaign meetings (internal & client-facing) and positioning yourself as the team’s SEO authority - asking the right questions, providing answers and explanations to clients in a concise palatable manner, setting a good example to junior team members and translating meeting outcomes into actionable next steps
  • Nurture and develop healthy working relationships with clients
  • Achieving continuous improvement by proactively assessing Jellyfish practices

 

Line Management Responsibilities

  • Supporting the team’s practitioners in the delivery of their objectives and ensuring that they are continually developing their SEO expertise
  • Identifying when team members are struggling in their understanding tasks and providing them with the support they require
  • Day-to-day work allocation and feedback
  • Responsible for holiday approval and arranging appropriate cover
  • Responsible for reporting sickness/absence to HR and Office Manager and conducting return to work interviews for staff under your line management
  • Probationary and appraisal process management
  • Overseeing team time-tracking and planning
  • Management of conduct matters in conjunction with the HR department
  • A role model of all Jellyfish procedures

Experience Required

Skill Requirements

  • BA/BS degree preferable
  • Leadership experience
  • Excellent knowledge of leading industry software & tools
  • A clear understanding of the role that SEO, content and social media plays within digital marketing and a comprehensive understanding of other channels, technologies and digital eco-systems
